PM Shehbaz seeks PPP support for 27th Amendment, says Bilawal

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has revealed that Pakistan Muslim League (N) has asked for their support in the passage of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Last week, a high-level delegation of the PMLN led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the leadership of the PPP. It sought the PPP’s support for the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared the details of the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He said that during the meeting, the PML-N delegation presented proposals related to the constitutional amendment, which included several important and sensitive points.

According to Bilawal Bhutto, the PML-N delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari and me. They requested the PPP to cooperate in passing the 27th Constitutional Amendment. According to the proposals listed in the proposed amendment:

  • Establishment of a Constitutional Court
  • Restoration of Executive Magistrates
  • Power to transfer judges
  • Abolition of provincial protection in NFC awards
  • Amendment of Article 243
  • Returning education and population planning matters to the federation
  • Ending the deadlock on the appointment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that a meeting of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the PPP has been called on November 6 to consider these proposals, which will be held upon President Asif Ali Zardari’s return from Doha. The meeting will decide the party’s final policy.

This development comes at a time when a new debate has begun in the country on the topic of constitutional reforms and institutional powers.
