QUETTA: In a tragic turn of events, the body of a young student, Muhammad Musawir Kakar, has been recovered by the law enforcement agencies from the Maro Isplinji area of Mastung district on Friday, according to police officials.
Musawir Kakar was kidnapped by the extremist group Daesh, also known as IS, for ransom on November 15, 2024, in Quetta while going to school.
Quetta DIG Aitzaz Ahmed Goraya, while talking to the media, said that Afghan nationals were involved in the kidnapping of the minor boy as he was picked up with the help of some locals who later handed him over to the extremist group Daesh.
The militant group demanded a ransom of $12 million from the victim’s father for the release of Musawir Kakar.
The police in an operation located the grave where the kidnappers, after killing him, buried his body in the Maro Isplinji area of Mastung.
He said that the postmortem reports that the body is two months old and was shot in the head and chest, adding that his identity was confirmed through DNA testing.
“We tracked down the kidnappers, raided multiple locations, and eliminated some of them, but unfortunately, we were unable to ensure the safe recovery of the boy, for which we are deeply sorry,” said DIG Goraya.
Authorities were able to find the hideouts after the inquiry tracked down phone calls from Afghan and Iranian numbers, he added.
According to the DIG, a militant set off explosives during a raid by Frontier Corps and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on November 20 of last year at a suspected hideout in Dasht, wounding CTD officers and causing damage to a car.
According to DIG Goraya, the facilitators have also been taken into custody, including those who gave the kidnappers technical and logistical help.
Two days later, he added, the car that was used in the kidnapping was also found.
