Power tariffs likely to come down in early 2026

Electricity prices

ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices across the country may come down at the beginning of 2026.

The Central Purchasing Power Agency (CPPA) has requested Nepra to reduce the price of electricity by 72 paisa per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment.

The CPPA’s request includes data for November, according to which 7.81 billion 30 million units of electricity were supplied to the discos.

The cost of electricity per unit in November was Rs 6.16 paisa.

39.16 percent of electricity was generated from hydro, 9.34 percent from local coal, 5.06 percent from imported coal, 8.44 percent from gas, 8.64 percent from LNG, and 25.23 percent from nuclear fuel.

This application is a significant step towards reducing electricity prices, and if NEPRA decides on it, the public could get relief in the new year.
