ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday was released from custody in a case registered in Sangjani police station.
PTI lawmaker was arrested along with others in a crackdown against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders for the alleged attack on police at Chongi No 26 during the public gathering in Sagjani on Sunday.
According to the police statement, Gohar has been discharged in the case lodged at Sangijani police station.
Other party leaders who have been arrested include Sher Afzal Marwat, Zain Qureshi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Naseem-ur-Rehman, and Zubair Khan.
Police also booked PTI leaders for violating the rules of the public gathering staged on Sunday including exceeding the time given by district administration.
Cases have been registered against PTI leaders at three police stations, encompassing charges of interfering with government operations, vandalism, and violations of Section 144 – which bans the gathering of more than five people – of the CrPC.
The first information report (FIR) stated that charged PTI workers attacked police teams with batons and pelted them with stones when officers tried to stop them from violating the Islamabad rally’s route.
In a separate development, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent Shoaib Shaheen on a judicial remand in a case about a reported attack on the police at Chongi No 26.
ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain conducted the hearing. Prosecutor Raja Naveed demanded a 15-day physical remand of Shaheen and claimed that they have to recover “police kits” available with the accused.
