Punjab allows ‘Basant Festival’ with strict rules

Over 20,000 sanitary workers deployed for Basant festival

LAHORE: Punjab government has given permission to celebrate ‘Basant festival’. According to Punjab government sources, the Basant festival will be celebrated on February 6, 7 and 8.

According to sources, no one will be allowed to violate the rules and regulations during these days, and special QR codes will be issued for kites and strings.

Earlier, an ordinance granting conditional permission to celebrate Basant was issued with the signatures of Punjab Governor Saleem Haider, under which conditions have been set for Basant, the violation of which is punishable by imprisonment and fine.

According to the ordinance, kite flying was banned in Punjab in 2001. Kite flying has been allowed again after 25 years, however, children under the age of 18 will not be able to fly kites. The father or guardian will be responsible for any violation.

The ordinance states that kite flying will be allowed only with strings made of thread, severe penalties will be imposed for using strings made of metal or sharp-edged ropes, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 years in prison and a fine of Rs 2 million. Every motorcycle within the district will be operated in accordance with the specified safety measures.
