LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the monumental new plan for sewage and drainage systems throughout Punjab province.
The plan is aimed to provide a new system of sewage and drainage throughout all major cities in Punjab focusing especially on 189 cities where the population exceeds 100,000.
The project includes sewage, water drainage, and rainwater disposal along with street paving and some other development works.
In an unprecedented move, it has been decided to build sewage bypasses and sewage disposal stations in towns that will help to prevent contamination and provide for a sustainable and safe sewage system.
The project will also include storage tanks to provide for instant disposal of rainwater which will then be used for irrigation and other purposes.
Sewage lines for clean water will be laid parallel to the sewage lines, with proper distances observed to avert contamination. Additionally, a 30-kilometer road will either be constructed or rehabilitated in each provincial constituency.
Model villages are to be constructed within Punjab by the Punjab Development Program, with the Chief Minister approving a proposal for the same.
The “Clean Punjab Program”, which will benefit nearly 150 million people in the province, is expected to prevent the degradation of road surfaces and promote a sustainable and safe sewage system.
