Punjab deploys policewomen on cycles for security during Eid shopping

LAHORE: Punjab police have deployed lady police squads on bicycles in various cities across Punjab to enhance security for shoppers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.The initiative, launched under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to enhance security and safeguard women shoppers in busy commercial areas and marketplaces across the province.

Under the initiative, cycle squads, including both male and female personnel, have been stationed in key locations to tackle incidents of harassment in crowded places.

In Okara District, a special bicycle squad consisting of 50 women police personnel has been stationed in all three Tehsils — Depalpur, Okara, and Renala — while motorcycle squads and foot patrols of female officers will also remain on duty.

The squad has been tasked to prevent street crime and harassment as shopping picks up during the last 10 days of Ramazan.

Similarly, in Bhakkar, lady police officers have also been deployed with electric scooters to ensure the protection of women in shopping centers.

Meanwhile, women shoppers have lauded CM Maryam’s initiative, calling it a progressive step toward ensuring a safer environment for female citizens.
