LAHORE: The provincial government of Punjab had announced free travel facilities for senior citizens, special persons, and students across the province as part of a major public relief initiative approved during the 24th meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
As per the details, the cabinet approved free travel for elderly citizens across all operational routes of Punjab’s electric bus service. Senior citizens can avail the facility by simply showing their national identity card when boarding the bus.
Currently, the electric bus service is operational in Lahore, Sargodha, and Wazirabad, with upcoming expansions planned in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujrat, Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan, and 24 other underdeveloped districts in Southern Punjab.
The government also reviewed a proposal to introduce transport cards for students to ensure easy and free access to public transport. This move is part of a wider welfare agenda to ease the burden on low-income groups and improve accessibility across Punjab.
