Punjab govt ban Petrol-powered motorcycles and rickshaws

KP govt introduces E-rickshaws to boost income

LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has decided to impose restrictions on the production of petrol-powered motorcycles and rickshaws.

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting with the smog control committee, during which it was decided to ban the production of petrol-powered motorcycles and rickshaws across the province.

Additionally, the meeting decided that only electric and hybrid vehicles and electric motorcycles will be purchased for the government department in the Punjab.

A complete ban was also imposed on washing vehicles with water at the domestic level.

The meeting also approved the appointment of workshops under the Public-Private Partnership framework to conduct regular testing of vehicles emitting smoke above permissible standards.

She said that it is Punjab’s first emission testing system, which has tested over 300,000 vehicles so far.

A smog war room has been established at the Punjab Safe City Authority, where 8500 CCTV cameras are used to monitor.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif praised the entire team, acknowledged the battle against child labor at brick kilns, and expressed satisfaction with the environmental improvement initiatives.
