LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken significant steps to protect workers’ rights and prevent child labor. In a meeting chaired by Labor Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, it was decided to set the minimum employment age at 16 years, exceeding the current legal minimum age of 14 years.
A special task force will be established to ensure the implementation of the minimum wage of Rs37,000, and workers’ wages will be transferred directly to their bank accounts.
Moreover, a complaints cell has been set up within the Labor Department to address workers’ issues promptly.
The government aims to promote labor unions and the right to association and will bring employment agencies under labor laws to safeguard workers’ rights.
In addition, strict action will be taken against child labor across Punjab, with a focus on enforcing the new minimum employment age of 16 years.
These measures demonstrate the Punjab government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and preventing exploitation.
