Punjab govt issues guidelines for solar panels installation

Providing major relief to small solar consumers, NEPRA has abolished the license requirement for systems with a capacity of 25 kW and below.

LAHORE: The provincal government has issuee rules and regulations for the installation of solar panels in Punjab, according to media reports.

In view of the instructions of the Energy Department, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued a letter, giving guidelines to the commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab regarding the installation of solar panels.

DG PDMA Irfan Kathia says that the system should be installed by experts approved by the Alternative Energy Development Board, the district administration should provide SOPs to building owners, solar vendors and installers.

Solar systems in sensitive buildings, schools, hospitals, offices should be immediately reviewed, municipal corporations and building authorities should strictly implement the guidelines.

According to the announcement, solar panels should be installed in a safe, strong and sealed manner, drainage channels should not be blocked, ensure the cleanliness of the roof, and select panels with high impact ratings to protect against hail.
