LAHORE: The Punjab government’s crackdown on marriage halls intensified in Lahore, where officials sealed 14 venues and arrested nine people for breaking provincial rules.
The action came after the chief minister ordered the authorities to strictly enforce discipline at social events and reduce noise pollution across the city.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Moosa Raza has said that monitoring teams have been deployed in every important area, and assistant commissioners are conducting on-ground inspections daily. In the past three days, officials inspected a total of 562 venues and imposed fines worth Rs 150,000 in Nishtar Town for various violations.
The Punjab government’s crackdown on marriage halls gathered greater momentum on December 5, with six venues being sealed following a total of 267 inspections.
Officials explained that marriage halls and farmhouses were obliged to observe the government’s SOPs, including bans on loud music, fixed event timing, and adherence to the One Dish rule. Special night squads continue to monitor late-night gatherings, while assistant commissioners are overseeing events at the halls, marquees, and farmhouses to ensure enforcement of the rules.
Authorities said the continuing enforcement drive aims to ensure public order, compliance with the law, and an atmosphere of peace among residents during social events.
