Punjab govt to set fix chicken prices, poultry association agrees

Prices of boiler meat increase once again

LAHORE:  Punjab Minister for Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani announced that the provincial government intends to establish fixed prices for chicken meat in partnership with all stakeholders.

He met with a delegation in Lahore led by Muhammad Nusrat, Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association. The group also included representatives from the Punjab Poultry Association, Poultry Traders Association, and Broiler Farmers Association. The meeting concentrated on examining the chicken supply chain and pricing.

Moreover, during the discussion, various approaches for determining broiler chicken prices were explored. The Secretary of Livestock Punjab noted that chicken prices had recently increased by Rs70 per kg, a rise not linked to supply and demand factors.

Additionally, Muhammad Nusrat, Chairman of the Pakistan Poultry Association, discussed business-related issues and concerns with the Provincial Livestock Minister.

The minister assured that the concerns of the Poultry Association would be addressed, stating that the Punjab government will set chicken prices with input from all stakeholders.

He also mentioned that the government plans to permit a 15 to 20 percent profit margin on production costs while working to reduce the current high prices.

The Livestock Secretary will develop a pricing plan, which will be submitted to the chief minister for approval. The Poultry Association has agreed to collaborate with the government to assist in lowering prices.
