LAHORE: The Lahore City Traffic Police has declared a citywide crackdown on those vehicles that are running on duplicate, fancy, or non-standard number plates. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed directed a three-day awareness campaign before the launch of the enforcement drive.
As per CTO Waheed, from Friday, cases will be filed against those using illegal number plates. In the run-up to the crackdown over the next three days, car owners caught with non-standard or modified plates will be warned and not booked immediately.
“The idea of this first campaign is to create awareness among the citizens and provide them with a chance to adhere to the rules and regulations before taking legal action,” said Waheed.
He also assured that the crackdown would not be restricted to drivers, as against manufacturers of false number plates, action will also be taken.
CTO Waheed cautioned that alteration of the license plates to escape e-challans is a punishable crime and will be dealt with accordingly.
The traffic police have appealed to all citizens to make sure that their cars have officially sanctioned number plates to pre-empt legal inconveniences and help ensure better enforcement of traffic regulations in the city.
