Rawalpindi to be sealed at 50 locations ahead of PTI protest

RAWALPINDI: In preparation for a planned protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on November 24, law enforcement agencies are imposing a “virtual siege” on Rawalpindi.

The city will be sealed at 50 locations to prevent PTI supporters from entering the federal capital.

Authorities have already launched a crackdown on PTI leaders and workers, with more than 30 people being detained.

Police will deploy shipping containers, razor wire and barbed wire at key locations and additional security personnel, including elite force commandos, will be on standby to maintain law and order and prevent any protests.

Although police officials have indicated that they prefer to avoid using water cannons and rubber bullets, they are prepared for possible clashes, especially in Attock district, where tensions are expected to be high.

Police have said that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property of citizens are top priorities.

Despite these measures, the PTI is sticking to its plans to protest the imprisonment of its founder and demand new elections.Police officials conducted inspections of the sealing points on Wednesday, emphasizing that preventing unrest is crucial.
