LAHORE: A recent report released by The Urban Unit of the Punjab government revealed the details about the primary contributors to air pollution in Punjab.

According to the report, major sources of air pollution include industrial emissions, vehicular exhaust, and burning of agricultural waste.

The study indicates that smoke-emitting vehicles are the largest contributors with a staggering 83.15% of the total air pollution levels. Factories and power plants are also among the largest offenders, releasing 9.07% of harmful pollutants into the air.

According to The Urban Unit report, agricultural waste burning also plays a crucial factor in exceeding air pollution levels but it is way below than it is generally discussed.

The burning of crop residue contributes 3.9% to overall pollution levels, while the incineration of general waste adds 3.6%.

Furthermore, the report indicated that commercial building activities account for 0.14% of air pollution, while household activities contribute 0.11% to the pollution level.
