Sanjdi coal mine death toll rises to eight, four miners still trapped

Sanjdi coal mine death toll rises to eight, four miners still in trap

QUETTA: A rescue operation is currently underway at the Sanjdi coal mine in Quetta, where an explosion caused by methane gas trapped several miners.

The rescue efforts are being coordinated by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). So far, two more bodies have been retrieved from the mine, leaving the death toll at 8.

Four miners are currently still trapped in the debris. Teams spent priceless hours doing everything possible to reach them. They drilled down through debris for 4,000 feet, making some progress toward access to those presumed trapped miners.

Earlier, the incident occurred on Thursday, when 12 miners were trapped following an explosion that caused the collapse of the coal mine leaving several miners dead.

The retrieval of two more bodies is a harsh reminder of the risks and dangers faced by coal miners in the region. In a different incident in Harnai, a coal miner died when the Shahrag coal mine in Balochistan caved in.

Subsequently, rescue officials reported that the miner’s body had been recovered from the coal mine.

The accidents stress the importance of ensuring coal miners’ safety and well-being in the region. The authorities must take any additional measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

The rescue operation at the Sanjdi coal mine is ongoing, and the team’s efforts will not cease until they have rescued all miners trapped in the mine.

The families of all deceased and trapped miners are desperate for any news of their loved ones and the authorities must do their utmost to support them in this difficult time. The incidents are a reminder of the dangers and difficulties miners face.
