ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives has shown serious concerns over the delay on the construction of dams in Balochistan.
The meeting was chaired by Senator Quratulain Marri, held in the Parliament House on Monday. The meeting was briefed on the 23 under-construction dams project across the province by the planning department.
Work on the majority of the dams has been delayed amid funding issues, moreover, the deadline for the construction of 14 dams has expired, Additionally, the progress on four projects has stalled due to increased costs, according to the briefing.
The overall financial progress stands at 21.7% as the total cost of the dam project is estimated at Rs182.83 billion, out of which Rs50.55 billion has been spent so far.
The relevant departments were instructed by the Standing Committee to create a unique incentive package for Gwadar tourism.
Additionally, it asked the provincial administration for details on the initiatives being made to support Gwadar’s growth.
