SHC directs officials to allow acting Governor Sindh access to Governor House

Acting Governor Sindh Awais Qadir Shah

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the relevant officials to allow Acting Governor Sindh Awais Qadir Shah access to the Governor House officers.

The development came after Speaker Sindh Assembly Shah moved to the high court over the closure of the office of the Governor of Sindh.

The petition stated that Governor Sindh Kamran Tesori has gone abroad on June 2; but since then, the acting Governor has not been given access to the Governor’s House.

“The acting governor should be given access to the residential and other offices at the governor’s house,” the SHC judge remarked.

Awais Shah, in a petition, said that preventing the acting Governor from performing office affairs is a violation of the constitution.

While talking to the media informally outside the court, Shah said that the constitution was insulted today. “Governor’s House is not anyone’s personal property, but a federal constitutional office.”

“The acting governor further alleged that Kamran Tessori had taken the office keys abroad on multiple occasions during his tenure,” she said.

“If those sitting in constitutional positions behave in this manner, what message does it send to others? Such a mindset is regrettable,” Shah added.
