Sindh authorities impose ban on swimming at beach amid cyclone threats

KARACHI: Cyclone Asna is expected to hit Sindh’s coastal areas today August 30, prompting local authorities to impose a ban on beach activities.

Commissioner Karachi has enforced Section 144 along Karachi’s sea and coastline areas, effective from today until August 31. This ban prohibits swimming, bathing, diving, and wading in the sea and beaches of the Karachi division.

Moreover, fishermen are also advised not to venture into the sea until August 31 in Sindh and September 1 in Balochistan.

This precautionary measure was taken based on recommendations from Deputy Commissioner South and Deputy Commissioner Kemari considering the heavy rainfall and multiple warnings from the Meteorological Department, to prevent any potential incidents.

In addition, a powerful weather system is currently brewing over the Arabian Sea, near the Kutch region, with strong winds exerting significant pressure.

This intense system is forecasted to shift towards the coastal areas of Sindh, potentially making landfall tonight or tomorrow, bringing with it a significant threat of severe weather conditions.

Cyclone Asna is expected to bring heavy rainfall, wind thunderstorms, and rough sea conditions, leading to school closures in Karachi on Friday. Authorities have been directed to strictly enforce the ban, with any violations dealt with accordingly
