Sindh police start crackdown against human traffickers, their facilitators

Five police personnel injured in North Waziristan attack

KARACHI: Following instructions from IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Sindh police have ramped up their efforts against human trafficking rings.

In addition, IG Sindh directed all Additional IGs, DIGs, and SSPs across the province to take stringent action against those involved in human trafficking, the directive called for filing cases not only against traffickers but also against their facilitators and guardians.

The police leadership has warned that failing to address these crimes will be considered complicity.

In April 2024, IG Sindh announced plans to recruit 400 prosecutors to improve the legal process within the police force.  During a meeting, IG Sindh focused on enhancing investigative strategies and legal reforms.

Moreover, IG Memon emphasized the need for digitalization and computerization of the Sindh police department to streamline operations.

He highlighted the importance of automating forwarding First Information Reports (FIRs) to prosecutors and noted that the Sindh Government has pledged full support for this digitalization effort.

Additionally, he underscored the crucial role of protecting complainants and witnesses in the legal process.
