KARACHI: Malir Jail officials announced on Thursday that six detainees were captured during the Malir Jailbreak, bringing the total number of inmates rearrested to 158.
67 convicts from the prison remain at loose following the incident on Monday night, June 2.
Officials reported that 225 convicts escaped during the event. Scores of absconding prisoners were apprehended by police during operations or returned to jail by their relatives, officials said .
Police are conducting raids on their residences to apprehend the remaining absconding prisoners.
According to officials, the police department has formed squads to arrest escaping prisoners. An inquiry is ongoing by a team of officials, collecting evidence of the occurrence from Malir.
Earlier, a prisoner who fled from Malir Jail during a jailbreak a couple of days ago has been found dead at his home on Thursday, police said.
Police officials said that Raza Pervez, a resident of Karachi’s Mauripur area, committed suicide. Before his death, Raza recorded a video confession.
As per details, the deceased was arrested by the Eidgah police in a drug case in March 2022.
Police, citing his family, said that Raza returned home after fleeing from Malir Jail, and they were taking him to the city court today to produce him for arrest.
In a video statement recorded by the deceased before his suicide, he stated, he is innocent, admitting that he fled along with other inmates amid gunfire and confusion within the jail.
