Three accused of Ichhra Bazar ‘blasphemy’ case get bail

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted bail to three men accused of harassing a woman for wearing a shirt with Arabic-script print in Lahore’s Ichhra bazaar.

Judge Arshad Javed approved the bail of the three men identified as Altamash, Nadeem, and Adil. They were arrested in Lahore’s Ichhra Bazar case and were sent on remand after a request by the police.

Furthermore, the judge also acquitted two men, named Aleemuddin and Khalid Shahenshah, who had obtained interim bail.

On February 25, a woman was accused of blasphemy by a charged mob for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy which they confused with the Quranic verses written on the dress in the Ichhra Bazar area of Lahore. The timely action of the female ACP SherBano not only saved the situation from worsening, but the woman was also safely removed from the angry mob.
