Three arrested for illegal hunting of Markhor in Pishin district

PISHIN: Three people, including two government employees, were arrested on Thursday for illegally hunting the rare Suleiman Markhor in the Bostan area of Pishin district.

Assistant Commissioner Karizat Amir Hamza Baloch said authorities with the assistance of the Levies Force conducted a successful operation in the mountainous Takato Range.

The operation was based on intelligence gathered from Levies about ongoing illegal hunting activities.

The arrested individuals were identified as police official Izhar Ahmad, WASA emplo­yee Musawir Jan, and Saddam Khan. All three were residents of Bostan.

During the operation, authorities also recovered the remains of the hunted Markhor along with weapons used in the illegal hunting.

As per details, the accused were attempting to transport Markhor’s body down the mountain in a jeep during the night.

A case has been registered against the suspects under sections 9, 16B and other provisions of the Balochistan Wildlife Act, 2014, with legal proceedings underway.
