KARACHI: In a significant development, the establishment division has suspended two senior police officers, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mirpur Khas Javed Jiskani and SSP Mirpur Khas Asad Chaudhary, in connection with the Umarkot incident.
This move comes after Sindh Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon ordered an investigation into the incident.
The incident in question involves the alleged police encounter killing of Dr. Shahnawaz Kumbhar, accused of blasphemy, in Mirpur Khas on Thursday. The establishment division has also requested a charge sheet against the suspended officers, directing that “the draft of charges and statements should be sent to the establishment division.
This swift action indicates a strong commitment to accountability within the police force. The suspensions of Grade-20 and Grade-18 officers send a clear message that such incidents will not be taken lightly.
