ISLAMABAD: The U.S. Department of State has updated its requirements for student visa applications, including the provision of social media identifiers, a policy that started in 2019.
According to the social media post published on the US Embassy Islamabad’s official X (Twitter) account, to apply for a U.S. student visa, students will now need to gather several documents. First, ensure you have a valid passport that’s valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S.
You’ll also need a Form I-20, issued by your U.S. school after SEVIS registration, and a SEVIS fee payment receipt, which requires a $350 payment, the notification stated.
Additionally, potential students need to complete the online nonimmigrant visa application form, known as the DS-160, and receive a confirmation page with a barcode.
A visa application fee receipt is also required, which involves a $160 payment. Furthermore, you’ll need a passport-sized photo that meets U.S. visa photo requirements and proof of financial support, such as bank statements, affidavits of support, or scholarship details.
To schedule a visa interview, students need to follow a few steps. First, get accepted into a U.S. institution and receive a Form I-20. Then, pay the SEVIS fee and complete the DS-160 form.
