When is the Muharram moon expected to be sighted in Pakistan?

Suparco issues moon sighting forecast for Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s national space agency (Suparco) has issued a prediction regarding the sighting of the moon of Muharram 1447 AH.

According to the spokesperson, the birth of the new moon is expected on June 25, 2025 at 3:32 PM. By sunset on June 26, the moon will be about 28 hours and 15 minutes old.

The spokesperson added that there will be a gap of 75 minutes between sunset and moonset in the coastal areas of the country, which will create the best conditions for moon sighting.

Based on astronomical factors, there is a strong possibility of moon sighting on the evening of June 26, provided that the weather remains clear.

In case of moon sighting, 1st Muharram 1447 AH is likely to be on Friday, June 27, 2025. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene a meeting to sight the moon on the evening of June 26 at the Deputy Commissioner Office, Quetta, which will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
