Punjab bans stage actresses over ‘indecent’ performances

Punjab bans stage actresses over 'indecent' performances

LAHORE: The provincial government of Punjab has banned several stage actresses from performing in theatres, citing concerns over their “indecent” dance performances.

According to the Punjab Arts Council, the banned artists will not be allowed to perform in any theatre shows during Eid-ul-Fitr. The list of restricted artists has been released and includes renowned stage actresses Sonia Chaudhry, Silk Jutt, Arooj Khan, Tina Chaudhry and Adeeba Rana, among others.

Authorities have also sent legal notices to the banned actors, accusing them of engaging in “immoral acts” on stage. The government has sought an explanation from the actors but has not received any response yet.

The crackdown comes as part of an effort to regulate stage performances and ensure they conform to cultural and moral standards. Officials said further action could be taken if the actors do not respond to the notices.

Stage theatres in Punjab often attract large audiences, especially during festive seasons like Eid, but authorities are increasingly monitoring performances to prevent content deemed inappropriate.
