Bangladesh triumphs over Pakistan by 7 wickets in T20I series opener

Financial blow looms for Bangladesh over T20 World Cup boycott

DHAKA: Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the first match of the three-match T20 series played in Dhaka.

Chasing a modest target of 111, the hosts comfortably reached the finish line in 15.3 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Parvez Hossain Amon played a match-winning innings, scoring 56 not out.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan’s batting line-up failed to deliver, collapsing under pressure and being bowled out for just 110 runs in 19.3 overs. Fakhar Zaman stood out with a fighting 44, but was left without support from the rest.

Pakistan’s innings collapsed early after Saim Ayub fell for 6, followed by the quick dismissals of Mohammad Haris (4), captain Salman Ali Agha (3) and Hassan Nawaz (0). Other notable scores included Khushdil Shah (17), Abbas Afridi (22), and Faheem Ashraf (5), while three batsmen were run out.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit was clinical – Taskin Ahmed took charge with 3 wickets, Mustafizur Rahman took 2 and Tanzeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan took one wicket each.

The comprehensive win gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the series.
