BCCI refutes claims of withdrawal from Asia Cup 2025

Asia Cup 2025 likely to begin on September 10

NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refuted claims of pulling out from the Asia Cup 2025 and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that no communication has been made as of now with the Asian Cricket Council regarding any withdrawal.

“Since this morning, some news reports have claimed that BCCI has decided not to participate in the Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup,” said Saikia. “Such news is completely false. The BCCI has neither held discussions on this matter nor communicated any decision to the ACC.”

Earlier, the Indian Express quoted a BCCI official saying that “Team India can’t compete in a tournament that is organised by the ACC, whose head is a Pakistani minister. We have to respect the sentiments of our people.

We have verbally communicated to the ACC about our decision to pull out from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup and other events. We are talking to the Indian government.”

The reports also stated that the Indian government’s approval would be required for any future participation in ACC tournaments and that the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka next month was already off India’s calendar.
