English batter Joe Root retains top spot in new ICC test ranking

Joe Root tops ICC Test Batting Rankings Following Lord's Masterclass

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the new Test ranking on Wednesday with English batter Joe Root in top spot.

Another Englishman, Harry Brook, is in second position, followed by Indian Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant.

Australian batter Travis Head has claimed the 10th spot in red-ball cricket.

No Pakistani batter has made it to the top ten in the ranking; however, Pakistani batter Saud Shakeel is placed in at 11th Position.

Moreover, Mohammad Rizwan claimed the 19th position.

Meanwhile, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruling the bowling rankings. Pakistan spinner Noman Ali was placed at the 5th position.

Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed its willingness to reduce Test matches to 4 days instead of 5, according to British media reports.

The ICC has expressed its willingness to accept the unique proposal to reduce Test matches to 4 days instead of 5, but the new change will not apply to India, England, and Australia, as per the reports.

According to the report, it is proposed to reduce Test matches to 4 days in the 2027-29 cycle of the World Test Championship. After approval, the new change will be implemented in 2027.

Small Test-playing countries, including Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, will play 4-day Tests, while Australia, India, and England will still be able to play 5-day Test matches.
