History in Rawalpindi; Bangladesh upsets Pakistan with maiden Test victory against Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: Bangladesh achieved a historic milestone on Sunday, August 25, securing their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The Bangladesh bowlers played a crucial role in securing this win, taking five wickets in the morning session on the final day and knocking out Pakistan for 146 in the second innings, Bangladesh was given a target of only 30 runs to win.

Bangladesh successfully chased down the small target without losing a wicket, marking a significant milestone in their cricket history. This win comes after Pakistan had dominated the previous 13 Test matches between the two teams, winning 12 and drawing one.

The visitors dominated the match from the outset, opting to field first and reducing Pakistan to a precarious 16/3 on the opening day.

Pakistan started the innings with the loss of one wicket, but captain Shan Masood lost the wicket after adding just 5 runs. Later, Babar Azam 22, Abdullah Shafiq 37, Shaheen Shah Afridi. 2, Naseem Shah 3, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Ali were out for zero.

Pakistan eventually declared their first innings at 448/6, but Bangladesh responded with a strong batting display of their own. Mohammad Rizwan scored 51 runs, Pakistan had a lead of only 29 runs against Bangladesh.

In the second innings for Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 4, Shakib Al Hasan 3 while Shoraful Islam, Naheed Hasan, and Hasan Mehmood took one wicket each

Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim led the charge with a magnificent 191, ably supported by Shadman Islam (93) and Mehidy Hasan (77), as Bangladesh posted an impressive 565 to gain a 117-run lead.

Despite fielding an all-pace attack for the first time in 28 years, Pakistan couldn’t prevent Bangladesh from making history, as the visitors coasted to a comfortable 10-wicket victory, achieving a landmark win in the process
