PCB decides against appointing anyone as vice-captain for Pakistan team

Pakistan team vice-captain

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the selection committee has unanimously decided not to appoint a vice-captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

PCB’s response came after it was revealed that pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi rejected the offer for the role of vice-captain of the Green Shirts for the World Cup campaign.

Taking on X, PCB said, “During Friday’s selection committee meeting, discussions on the vice-captaincy took place. However, it was unanimously decided not to appoint anyone.”

As such, no offer was made to any player, the PCB statement said, adding that the side is fully united, committed and keenly looking forward to the upcoming matches in the UK and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

A day earlier, multiple sources claimed that the Pakistan cricket team’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi excused himself from accepting the vice-captaincy of the national team.

Sources say that the selection committee of PCB has offered Shaheen Afridi the role of Pakistan team’s vice-captain, but Shaheen Afridi refused to accept the offer.

It should be noted that Babar Azam is the captain of Pakistan’s T20 team for the national team, but no vice-captain has been announced by PCB yet.

The ICC t20 World Cup is going to start after a few days in America and West Indies and sources say that after Shaheen Shah Afridi’s refusal, wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan are strong candidates for the vice-captain of the national team.
