Shahid Afridi backs Shadab Khan as potential captain

Shadab Khan joins Desert Vipers for Global Super League 2026

ISLAMABAD: Former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has said that if a new player is appointed to replace current captain Salman Ali Agha, then Shadab Khan could prove to be a suitable choice for the captaincy.

Afridi said in an interview that the team does not have many alternative options for leadership at the moment. He added that if head coach Mike Hesson remains in his position, then Shadab Khan can be given the captaincy, provided that he maintains his performance.

The former captain also said that Shadab Khan will need to show consistency in bowling so that no questions are raised on his leadership.

It should be noted that the Pakistan team is close to being eliminated from the event after the defeat against England in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, after which the discussion on the future of the captaincy has intensified.
