Sukkur to bestow Arshad Nadeem with ‘gold crown’

SUKKUR: To celebrate javelin ace, Arshad Nadeem, Sindh Government Spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, announced that the athlete will be awarded a gold crown and the new Sports Stadium in Sukkur will be named after Arshad Nadeem to honor his remarkable achievement.

Barrister Sheikh extended an invitation to Arshad Nadeem to visit Sukkur, where he will be bestowed with the gold crown, on the desire expressed by the people of Sukkur.

On August 8, the 27-year-old javelin thrower made every Pakistani proud by becoming the first-ever individual athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in Pakistan’s history.

Barrister Arsalan praised Arshad Nadeem, saying, “He has given a beautiful gift to Pakistan with the prayers of our mothers and sisters and the entire nation.

The historic 92.97-meter throw has put the Pakistani player in sixth place in the list of all-time best javelin throws. Czech Republic’s Jan Zelezny stands on top of the list with the world record of 98.48 meters throw that he accomplished in 1996.

Whereas, the best Olympic throw was 90.57, held by ­Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen in Beijing Olympics 2008.
