The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to issue 5G licenses to telecom companies, which has been confirmed by PTA officials. According to officials, the formal issuance of the licenses is expected tomorrow.
Officials say that if the licenses are issued on time, the companies can launch 5G service on a limited scale on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which will provide the fastest internet facility to the users.
Every company acquiring 5G spectrum has been made mandatory to submit a bank guarantee of $ 15 million, while the companies have submitted guarantees to fulfill this condition.
As per the license terms, each company will set up 1,000 new telecom sites, out of which 200 sites must be in remote and under-covered areas.
The PTA has recently completed the 5G spectrum auction, in which 480 MHz of spectrum out of 597 MHz was sold. The auction is expected to generate revenue of about $510 million for the government.
The 5G license issuance ceremony is expected to be attended by key government figures, where this important development will be formally announced.
