ISLAMABAD: Following a three-day outage amid the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, mobile internet services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad started to resume on Wednesday morning.
As the life in federal capital is returning to normalcy after PTI ends protest call the internet and mobile services are partially restored.
Sources from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) claim that the internet ban was put into place on instructions from the Interior Ministry for security reasons.
Social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp had also been blocked via a firewall in addition to mobile internet. During the outage, users reported having trouble downloading and uploading media files making communication difficult for them.
PTA sources claim that while mobile internet services are back up and running, social media platforms won’t be restored until the security situation has been evaluated.
Wi-Fi and standard mobile network services were untouched, even though social media and mobile internet were disrupted. Nonetheless, the extended stoppage had a major effect on digital and communication operations for local businesses and citizens.
