ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced to give free internet access to the residents at 35 key locations across Islamabad.
The Wi-fi will be available in major markets, Metro and Electric Feeder Bus stations, and public parks.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at CDA Headquarters.
National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, CDA Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Director IT, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Officials informed the meeting that the CDA’s technical team will provide full assistance to NTC in the implementation of this project.
It was also said that NTC will run and maintain the system to transform Islamabad into a free Wi-Fi metropolis in the near future.
The CDA Chairman called for an operational and marketing plan to be devised to make the service self-sustaining, with income going towards system upgrades and maintenance.
He emphasized the need to provide citizens with consistent and high-quality service.
