ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned users using unregistered mobile phones.
The authority says that such phones can be blocked from the network at any time, as only those devices that are officially registered can work under the DIRBS system.
Unregistered mobile phones are usually available at a lower price in the country because taxes and customs duties are not paid on them, which is why low-income users prefer to buy them.
However, the PTA has clarified that these devices are not only at risk of blocking but their use can also affect the connectivity of the users.
According to the PTA, users can get the 15-digit IMEI number of their phone by dialing *#06# and then check the status by visiting the PTA website or sending it by SMS to 8484.
The authority has urged citizens to register their devices before they are blocked so that the use of the network continues without interruption.
PTA has further said that as a responsible digital user, only approved and registered mobile phones should be used, so as to avoid any kind of trouble.
