Karachi’s Malir Jail escapee commits suicide at home

KARACHI: A prisoner who fled from Malir Jail during a jailbreak a couple of days ago has been found dead at his home on Thursday, police said.

Police officials said that Raza Pervez, a resident of Karachi’s Mauripur area, committed suicide. Before his death, Raza recorded a video confession.

As per details, the deceased was arrested by the Eidgah police in a drug case in March 2022.

Police, citing his family, said that Raza returned home after fleeing from Malir Jail, and they were taking him to the city court today to produce him for arrest.

In a video statement recorded by the deceased before his suicide, he stated, he is innocent, admitting that he fled along with other inmates amid gunfire and confusion within the jail.

The deceased described that everyone was climbing over each other to escape amid gunfire inside the jail. He also mentioned feeling tremors similar to an earthquake, which drove him to flee.

Raza Pervez committed suicide, fearing his arrest, police officials said.

It is pertinent to mention here that 216 prisoners had escaped from Karachi’s Malir Jail, scores of them rearrested by the police in operations or sent back to jail by their families.
