Karachi weather forecast: PMD forecasts heavy rains in port city

KARACHI: Despite the ongoing hot and humid weather, several areas in Karachi experienced intermittent rainfall on Monday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday predicted hot and very humid weather in most parts of the Sindh province including during the next 24 hours.

However, rain-wind storm or thundershowers was predicted at isolated places in Umerkot, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Sanghar, Karachi, Thatta, Badin and Sujawal during the evening or night.

Yesterday, Karachi suffered through intense heat until the afternoon, when monsoon clouds provided temporary relief over the weekend in the city.

Isolated rain in the city temporarily brought down the temperature, which had soared to 40.5 degrees Celsius recently, with the heat index touching 56 degrees Celsius. There was a brief respite from rain on Friday evening and additional rain on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Met Office, strong monsoon currents are expected from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal from July 22. Meteorologist Jawad Memon indicated that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal may affect Sindh, with heavy rains expected in Karachi between July 22. -23 and will continue until next week.

The PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
