Karachi weather: New Monsoon spell to enter port city

Islamabad Weather: Thunderstorms lash federal capital as strong winds, rains persist

KARACHI: The residents of Karachi are set to witness a new monsoon spell that is set to arrive in Karachi on Tuesday (July 15), said the Met Office in a statement on Monday.

Light to medium intensity rain will fall in Karachi and other Sindh districts from July 15 to 17, the weather report stated.

The city witnessed drizzle in various parts early Monday under a cloudy sky. Sea breeze has partially returned as winds are blowing to the metropolis at a light speed. The Met Office has forecasted drizzle or light rain this evening or night.

The port city is anticipating temperatures as high as 35°Celsius, with humidity at 78%. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also issued a red alert of floods in local streams, drains and hill torrents in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Murree Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, D.G.Khan, northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Baluchistan on account of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may also produce landslides, PMD added in its alert.

Powerful monsoon rains threaten to cause flash flooding, landslides, and city flooding on Monday night or evening, up to Tuesday, July 15.
