NDMA issues alert as water flow rises due to melting of Hispar-Hoper Glacier

NDMA issues heavy rain, thunderstorm alert

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert following a sudden increase in water levels in the river at the Hispar-Hoper Glacier area due to accelerated glacier melting.

According to the NDMA, water flow in the river near Hispar-Hoper has risen sharply, prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation. The disaster management authority said it remains fully vigilant and is continuously assessing developments on the ground.

The NDMA has directed local administrations to implement precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents living along riverbanks and in vulnerable areas.

Residents of several areas in Gilgit District, including Goru Jaglot, Rahimabad, Nomal, Jutal, Jaglot Colony, and Chilmish, have been advised to remain cautious and stay informed about weather and flood-related updates.

The authority also urged travelers to exercise caution while traveling through affected regions and to follow instructions issued by local authorities.

NDMA has encouraged the public to use the official disaster alert application for timely updates and safety guidance as the situation continues to be monitored.
