LAHORE: The Monsoon rain intensifies in the country as early morning rain has wreaked havoc in the provincial capital of Punjab, according to media reports.
In different cities, lighting and other incidents have resulted in the death of nine people, including two children and one woman, in the Kasur district of Punjab.
Several roads have been flooded, resulting in traffic disruptions and difficulties for the public reaching their workplaces.
Different cities, including the federal capital, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, received rain last night.
Heavy rains in various parts of Punjab flooded low-lying areas, while poor drainage arrangements caused difficulties for citizens.
Moreover, many districts in Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit receive intense rain, which gives a flood-like situation in the areas.
Earlier, the ongoing monsoon rains have triggered widespread flooding, landslides, and destruction in several parts of Pakistan, with the Meteorological Department warning that the current series will continue for another one to two days.
Another severe weather system is expected to hit the country early next week, after a brief hiatus.
According to Irfan Virk, deputy director of the Meteorological Department, heavy rains have been forecast in some areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, northeast Punjab and central Punjab. He warned that the continuous rains could cause urban flooding in cities and landslides in hilly areas.
