NEW DELHI: The visit of 500 Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan on the occasion of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary has been thrown into doubt as India has reportedly imposed travel restrictions on them.
According to security sources, the Indian government has banned the entry of Sikh pilgrims into Pakistan from May 7, 2025, a move that comes ahead of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary, which is scheduled to be observed on June 30.
Sources allege that India is trying to politicize the situation by targeting its own Sikh citizens and using them to exert pressure on Pakistan.
The Modi-led government has also further hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community by closing the Kartarpur Corridor. In addition, Indian authorities have reportedly attacked areas populated by Sikhs and attempted to damage places of worship, raising concerns about the treatment of minorities and religious freedom in India.
