Saudi Arabia bans outdoor loudspeakers for prayers during Ramadan

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its ban on using outdoor loudspeakers for prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Abdullatif Al Sheikh, announced that mosques may use outside speakers only to broadcast the adhan and iqama, which signal the start of prayers.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs issued a circular on Tuesday detailing guidelines for mosque preparations ahead of Ramadan. The instructions specify that all activities must follow the official prayer schedule, which uses the Umm Al-Qura calendar, and they must conduct their iftar meals in specific courtyard spaces.

The mosque caretakers must keep the mosque facilities clean and safe while they maintain the buildings, especially the women’s prayer spaces.

The ministry stated that the measures will establish a peaceful and orderly environment for Ramadan, which will provide spiritual experiences while protecting the rights of nearby communities.
