BANGALORE: The politics of the Indian state of Karnataka has lost an important and influential leader, State Minister for Planning and Statistics D Sudhakar passed away on Sunday morning after a prolonged illness.
He was 66 years old and had been undergoing treatment for a severe lung infection for the last two months.
According to Indian media reports, D Sudhakar breathed his last at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore. In a statement issued by the hospital administration, Medical Director Dr. R. Chennadurai said that Minister D Sudhakar passed away at 3:15 am. As soon as the news of his death came out, a wave of grief spread in political and social circles.
D Sudhakar was one of the senior leaders of the ruling Congress Party of Karnataka. He was elected as an MLA from the Harivar assembly constituency in Chitradurga district and also performed various important government duties.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed deep sorrow and grief over his death, saying that D Sudhakar was not only an excellent politician but also a sincere person with a passion for public service.
During his political journey, D Sudhakar saw many ups and downs. He won the assembly elections for the first time in 2004 on a Congress ticket. Later, due to political differences, he also won as an independent candidate. Later, he supported the BJP government and served as the Social Welfare Minister.
According to analysts, D Sudhakar’s death is being called a big loss for Karnataka politics and his services will be remembered for a long time.
