Sky turns red after devastating earthquake in Venezuela

earthquake in Venezuela

VENEZUELA: The sky suddenly turned red after a devastating earthquake in Venezuela, videos and photos of which went viral on social media.

According to a Reuters report, the incident has come to light at a time when rescue operations are underway in Venezuela after recent devastating earthquakes and thousands of people are still missing.

Seeing the red color of the sky, some people called it a new disaster, while many social media users expressed surprise at this unusual sight.

Experts have dismissed public concerns and clarified that this is a natural atmospheric phenomenon, locally called “candelazo”. According to them, at sunset, sunlight passes through dust, fine particles and Sahara desert dust in the atmosphere, due to which red and orange rays become more prominent. This process is called Rayleigh scattering in scientific language.

Experts further said that this red sky has not been proven to have any direct scientific connection with the recent earthquakes.

Although the color may appear more prominent due to the increased amount of dust in the atmosphere after earthquakes, it is not correct to consider it a sign of a new natural disaster.
