Tariq Rahman sworn in as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister

DHAKA: Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister Tariq Rahman took the oath on Tuesday, the first male to hold the top post in decades.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government was held in Dhaka.

Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to Tariq Rahman at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal attended the swearing-in ceremony on behalf of Pakistan.

Earlier, BNP members of parliament unanimously elected Tariq Rahman as the Leader of the House and Prime Minister.

The newly elected members of parliament were administered the oath by the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s interim leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus announced his resignation from his post in a farewell address to the nation.

While handing over power to the elected government, he said that the journey of democracy, freedom of expression, and fundamental rights should continue.

The interim government is completing its responsibilities today, and power is being transferred to the newly elected leadership, respecting the decision of the people.

It should be remembered that the BNP won the general elections held last week with a landslide victory.
