NEW DELHI: A sigh of relief for young learners as schools up to class 8 will remain closed in several districts including Agra, Mathura, Gorakhpur and Lucknow in India till January 14.
Authorities in India have decided to extend the winter vacations amid the recent cold wave, which has made it very difficult for students to physically attend school.
All schools from classes 1 to 8 will remain closed in the north Indian region till January 14. In Lucknow, the closure will continue till January 11, 2025.
Officials also issued instructions to conduct online classes for classes 9 to 12, where holidays have not been declared, till January 11.
The cold wave affected normal life in parts of UP, New Delhi and Punjab, with people mostly staying indoors. The India Meteorological Department has also predicted dense fog for the next few days, and temperatures are expected to drop to 6 degrees Celsius in some areas.
